The Atlanta Falcons first took the field on Sept. 11, 1966 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium led by Coach Norm Hecker, for their first official game against the LA Rams, now known as the St. Louis Rams. The Nickname Falcons is given by a schoolteacher who won a contest that was held by the team looking for a name for their new franchise. The Atlanta Falcons had one Super Bowl Appearance (SB XXXIII 1999) but ended up losing to the Denver Broncos 34-19. They’ve been to 2 NFC championship games (1998, 2004), won 3 Division Championships (1980, 1998, 2004) and made 9 playoff appearances. The Falcons created two Hall of Famers: Eric Dickerson RB and Tommy McDonald WR. The team’s jersey colors are Black, Red, Silver & White and home ballpark is Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.
